WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Subject,........matters?

Posted over 3 years ago
I'm not here to start a war with anyone, nor am I here to start discussing subjects that are not pertaining to music. I would like to address an issue. I know we want to strive in keeping MOG exactly what it is meant to be about.......music. I think if someone is going to post a remark on another persons MOG when that person is not posting about music, try not be so damn negative to the point where you are "bullying" someone into leaving. Especially if they're teenagers, we've all been through that stage and I would think that most people have had a pretty lousy time being one. They get picked on at school, in trouble at home and who knows what other problems they're facing right now, particularly in this day and age. I have seen a few MOG's on here that have absolutely nothing to do with music. Where are you now with your attacks? I guess your not much of an adult considering that you "attacked a minor". *I couldn't agree more that MOG should be nothing more than just about music.* That is the entire basis of me signing up here. If you don't like what someone types here, why do you read it in the first place? And I could swear that we had a new added feature where you could filter out topics that aren't music related. I guess that was too difficult to do.I would think that most people are adults here despite having a child-like side to them. I know I do and I have no problem fessing up to it. I joined this community in hopes that people would act somewhat civilized. So far, it has been, with an exception of a few bad apples. Again, I am not trying to start a fight here. I'm just saying, be a little bit more respectful to other people here. There is no need to pick on others.Thank you.

  2. champy says This is why the filter on the mog-o-shpere was created. This way users have a choice to read all, music only, etc... If your strictly here for music, which most people are, than you have the option to filter out everything else. Good post though

  6. B42 says Sometimes you need a bit of a thick skin out here, when I started blogging this was stated in the beginners manual...
    Permalink posted 10/12/2006
  7. Anonymous says I somewhat disagree B42. Instead of saying someone needs "thick skin" others need to be nice.

  8. sam9muhr says I think it goes both ways... How about a good compromise.

  10. slantera says I understand that people need to be more aware of what they are signing up to. However, issues should be addressed accordingly without intimidation in any form and people should be "adult-like" when they address younger people. If they see people disrespect one another, they will do they same. I remember when some kid was being a little smart-ass. I addressed him by asking, "Do you talk to your parents that way". He obviously responded, "No" and he apologized. Lesson taught, lesson learned without being disrespectful.

  11. lemontwist says Yeah, seriously. I wish people would be more respectful. It's so easy to skip past the posts you're not interested in. I can't stand people who are assholes. Is it really that difficult to be nice?

  12. lemontwist says Not even nice, just civil.

  17. Manos says I wish people didn't have to have thick skin, but there are simply too many people who get their jollies from being rude, and the www is tailor-made for their type of harassment. Still, MOG is a much safer place than most, thanks in part to posts like yours.

  18. Takeshi Kovacs says Hey this is a music site - take this post to Myspace - punk! Naaa I always try to be either helpful or sarcastic - I find one of the two works nicely. I'm mindful of youth - when it's known - remember, when you read a post you aren't always seeing the age of the someone that posted it.

  19. ladyfizzgig says Meh, there are far too many people willing to baby these kids that bitch and complain about how their exes dumped them, or how mean their parents are. I've tried the nice approach and gotten responses along the line of "fuck you I'll post what I want" followed by more shitty poetry. And I'm not saying that every little thing needs to be about music, or that chewing out dumb people is the only way to do it, I'm just saying that sometimes it's called for. A lot of people are friggin clueless out there, and not just the 16 year olds. If you need to vent that's fine, but when 100% of your posts are narcissistic, self-serving, whiney bullshit, people are allowed to step in. The filter isn't even fullproof as it depends on people tagging or not tagging appropriately.

  20. ladyfizzgig says In summation, I've got as much right to bitch about their posts as they do to post them.

  21. SWozniak says That's why it's America.

  22. SWozniak says I think, if I'm getting everybody right, we need to post consciously. The one-line "my life sucks" posts that everybody can see in the MOG-o-Sphere are not what most people came to MOG to be a part of. Maybe we need a filter that does say "for my MOG only," so that these posts make an RSS feed if you're reading people's RSS feeds and that they don't go to the MOGOS.

  24. Anna says Slant, I want to say some things here. I'm adressing everybody who has commented and anybody who might read this post. I'm not disagreeing with you. I happened to talk to that girl via mog-mail just before she deleted her account. Her first 2-3 posts got many, many warm comments. The first bad one she received, made her walk out. I'm not justifying anyone, I don't even know who told her sth (she just told me that someone told her she shouldn't be on mog), I'm just saying that mog is no different than the real world. You hear good things & bad things. You learn to deal with both. I think we're making this a bigger deal than it is. She got 50 warm comments and 1 bad and she walked out. I know that every teenager has the right to be dramatic & I respect that. Hey, I'm 25 years old, and I'm a drama queen myself. There are wankers in society & there are wankers on mog. It cannot be avoided. I've been here for about 2 months now & I have to say that I've met 3 jerks & 200 nice people. I'm civil, you guys are civil, some other moggers aren't. It happens.

  25. slantera says You're 100% right, Anna. I, too, talked to her before she delted her account. I tried to convince her to ignore that jerk, but.....we already know. I guess I really felt bad for her and I felt like I needed to say something. If people don't speak out or do something to correct problems then the problems will continue and grow bigger.
    Permalink posted 10/13/2006
  26. Anna says I felt I had to say those things, pointing out that I don't disagree with you. Yes, we should be civilized, but let's not make a big deal about someone who left mog on the first not so warm comment she received. I'm sad that she felt she had to leave, but I can't justify it in any way. Yes, I agree, you did a good thing here.
    Permalink posted 10/13/2006
  27. slantera says No, I won't make a big deal over it. There are other things (unfortunately for me) that I must make a big deal about.....especially for the sake of RATM!! ;-)

  28. Anna says Yes!!!! And don't forget that we have to bully them into re-uniting. Whoah!
