WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

One of those nights

Posted over 2 years ago
I had a call from my brother "Stu":http://mog.com/ccmr30 yesterday evening as I was relaxing in the pub after work. Did I want to go and see "Cylob":http://www.cylob.com/home_a.html (alias of Chris Jeffs) who was playing a DJ set in a tiny, tiny venue that evening? There was only one answer. It was a pretty surreal event - the opening acts were guitar\alt\indie and although they were all were interesting and decent enough to keep the attention, they were not what I'd have teamed Cylob up with. The further the night progressed, the more often we'd look at each other and then around the room. I was beginning to suspect there must be another Cylob; one that plays in a band with drums and things...The fourth interval was brought to a end with a minimal "Cylob on now.." And he was. Which was nice. Have some real electronica. This is from his latest EP Rock The Trojan Fader.A new album, Bounds Green is due out 10th September 2007.

  2. skjs says Hi Flood, I'd only heard a couple of his tracks before the night (I've been rectifying that today) so it was difficult to tell if they were all his or if there were any other artists mixed in. I think it was all his stuff but could be wrong. He's obviously got a set list as there are a few YouTube postings (of his) with some that I remember from last night. It was all good and the crowd may have been small but it was appreciative. Well done to "RECKNO":http://www.myspace.com/reckno for setting it up. And not a glow-stick in sight! This is one of his live Bangface postings on YouTube.

  3. The Serenity Vortex says Arg! I wish you hadn't posted that video. I'm not a fan of 'off tune' sections in music and he was grating against my nerves in this one. I'm hoping this is not his normal approach..... ;)

  4. skjs says lol! Probably not a good example. I don't remember anything other than dancing like an idiot.

  7. avenustylee says Loved the groove of this. Not flat like some electronica can be. Felt nice and loose. Hope to hear more of them.

  10. ccmr30 says Hi Steve! I'd better say something like, "aren't you glad i bothered to phone you!!". Anyway it's about time Cylob got some recognition. When I saw the lineup for the night (Reckno) and saw that Cylob was down to play, I thought it was a joke! I made sure it wasn't a mistake with venue or some cheap imitator! With the size of the venue it would be like Aphex Twin playing in your lounge. When I bought Cylobian Sunset in 1996 it fitted neatly into the same category of music as Aphex Twin, ยต-Ziq and Squarepusher. His output is nowhere near as prolific but what he does put out is usually quality. We both got to speak to him as well, although he probably thought we were a couple of drunken fools!!
