    enough torture for now
Everybody has done it. You’re growing up, developing your tastes, discovering new places, people, things, songs. New songs. Awful songs. And I don’t mean to use “awful” in the positive context people have used the words “bad”, “sick”, or “dope”. Right…because when you hear something great you say “awful”…anyways…I really mean straight-up awful. It’s not like you saw it coming. You didn’t know 15 years later Michael Bolton, New Kids, Ice, or Hammer would become a tarnished blip on the pop radar and the laughing stock of the millennium. Around ’92 or so (I was 13), I’d ride with my buddy to church while his parents blasted “Time, Love, & Tenderness” in their car, among other special adult-contemporary hits. This brainwashing lasted for several months, during which I began to admire Bolton’s fine craft.I’m taking frequent breaks typing this to wash my hands of the memory. But yes…I actually bought….this is difficult, so bear with me…I uh, bought…his…………Mikeboltsalbum!Ah, there. I said it. Now how about you? Which ones did you buy that make you cringe when looking back? C’mon…you know you want to!

  2. kateherself says I tend to feel no guilt about liking whatever I like. This comes from someone who listens to Donny and Marie (love them!), Justin Timberlake (sounds like Michael Jackson before he got freaky!), Wham!, Olivia Newton-John and on and one.. There is, however, one CD that I owned that to this day I am loathe to admit: The Titanic Soundtrack.

  8. Samantha Seldon says What is with church and Michael Bolton?! Jesus and MB must be friends because I actually was at one time in possession of a MB CD via my church. I won it at my church's annual funfest. I sank a put or tossed a ring on a bottle of coke or something. However, this was before I got into music so it was used as a wheel on my very successful mouse-trap car. But . . . I, gulp, I . . . hyperventilating breath, I . . . bought an Avril Lavigne CD. My friend made me do it! I swear! Well, she didn't really; but she convinced my to buy it! Friends and their peer pressure! I apologize to the world for contributing to the perpetuation of "Sk8er Boi." Again, sorry.
