Give Yourself A Break

I never listened or paid attention to the Posies. Like the Pixies, I always thought, "Oh, they are out there, I'll get around to them," something to look forward to, so to speak.Well, today I listened to some Posies songs and I am totally blown away. That full band sound, those winsome melodies, wow. I like that California band, Rogue Wave, very much and I can see how they must have been influenced by the Posies. Ok, maybe I am talking shit now, I have never felt comfortable reviewing bands and I hate the whole, "sounds like blah mixed with this and that before their last album." That can be a helpful comparative tool in casual conversation but...I hate writing like that crap. Anyway! I got around to the Posies and now I am almost happy. I'm buying "Every Kind Of Light" and I have new music to discover and anticipate, even if it is not new to the world, it's new to me, and that's cool.

    dermahrk says I love the Posies. "Every Kind of Light" is their newest, and not even their strongest release so you have a LOT of good stuff unheard. Plus Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow have released solo CDs (I prefer Auer's), they became part of the reconfigured Big Star. I don't think The Posies have gotten much (any?) MOG love, so I am happy to see this post. :)

    shorthands says whoa. almost overwhelming but okay. I do know (and love) Big Star but I certainly am not up on the whos and whens. It can be difficult to keep track of such things...even in the small rock and roll "scene" of Northampton, MA. Thanks for the encouragement and intel.
