Prelude No.6 in B Minor

Posted over 2 years ago
According to Wikipedia, this prelude by Chopin was played at his funeral. I have no idea if this is true or not, and knowing Wikipedia, one would have to do some real research to find the truth as there is no citation on this fact. But putting that aside, this is a favorite Chopin prelude of mine. All of Chopin's preludes (there are 24 in total) are quite short and don't function as traditional preludes do. They traditionally are literally a prelude to a longer work. Bach's preludes in his Well Tempered Clavier, for example, are always followed by a fugue. So even though Bach's preludes are indeed short compositions in and of themselves, they are paired with a fugue to make a longer work. Choin's preludes, however, are like short musical ideas, sketches almost (as Robert Schumann put it) compared to the traditions of the day. But I still think its a beautiful piece.
