Each sample is about a minute-and-a-half, except for "Fancy Funeral" which features the entire track (!). After hearing these four tracks (a quick registration is required), I am convinced that West - produced by the legendary Hal Wilner - is going to be Lu's best album yet, owing very little to Americana or alt-country or folk music, except what matters most - her knock-dead songwriting and her increasingly gorgeous singing.Furthering this impression is a cover story in the new issue of No Depression, on newsstands now. It's a terrific article (penned by Bill Friskics-Warren), dedicated almost entirely to details about the making of West (eschewing the career retrospective blather than sometimes accompanies their cover stories, and leaving behind the soap operas that always accompany articles about Lucinda).It seems the long wait for a new Lucinda record may pay off in spades!
