Duck Rock Still Rocks

Posted over 1 year ago

If you have never listened to Duck Rock or you haven't listened to it in a long time you are missing out on one of the earliest hip-hop/rap/latino/white-guy DJ things out there. The illegitimate father of everything from Paul Simon's Graceland to De La Soul's 3 Feet High & Rising.

Asia if you like this beat, let me hear you stomp your feet!

Revered & reviled upon it's release...Duck Rock has, as you suggest, the Bona Fides.  Ahead of it's time it paradoxically seemed dated, even then.........I always thought of it as cosmic radio signals drifting in & out of focus.  There are sections here that are pure genius....and others that are.......the very definition of filler.  But en toto it was an unfairly under-appreciated turning point in popular music.
