MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album: What's Wrong With Red Buttons
Track: Don't Push Red Buttons

Anyone else having trouble? A few of the red buttons played, after about a 30 second wait. Now they don't work at all.

Oh, how I like your tags... I didn't push the red button because there was none to push in the first place. However, I've noticed that some red buttons will not play any music at all, especially in comments.

One way I've managed to listen to the uploaded track in the post is to flush my browser cache. It sorted out the problem and frustration on more than one occasion.

Nice videos also, Scot. -- Incidentally, have you ever tried pushing a red mutton?

Actually, the sheep above were painted by their farmer who wanted to cheer the people who drove past his animals on the M8 M8 in West Lothian. He did it last year surprising more than on commuter travelling between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

There is also the red sheep of the Ardennes in France ;)

True, though the pictures don't them just justice. They're really dark ginger almost auburn in real life... The name of this race of sheep is "mouton de Soay" or "mouton rouge des Ardennes".

What were we talking about again? O, yeah red buttons. Speaking of which, The Red Button's clip of "Cruel Girl" available on their album "She's About To Cross My Mind" (check out their website)

A marjor character in one of Thomas Hardy's four authentic masterpieces - Return of the Native, for the record - is a professional trader in red ochre, or "reddleman," whose product was in demand among sheep farmers, to dye their sheep red. Why in God's name it was important to do such a thing is never mentioned, as I recall. But even if it was just one of the casual nonexistences Hardy enjoyed creating (like Wessex), which would suit the preoccupation with colors in his writing, there's some history behind, and perhaps even a sane reason for, dyeing sheep red.

The drawbacks of being a reddleman were considerable. It paid very little, you had to go to your customers (over great distances, often), rather than customers coming to you, and human skin absorbs red ochre thirstily, and it doesn't come out. The reddleman (called "the red man" by everyone in the book) is dyed permanently bright red, head to toe, which rather isolates him socially.

Thanks for all the dyed-in-the-wool comments! At least if I can't listen to music, there's great people to talk to 'round here!

Michael, I do flush, but was out of tp this morning. Thought it better to disembowel my frustration with a little more creativity. Maybe the sheep are red because that is the Zodiac color of Aries the Ram?? my sign, baby!!

Indie - B's post/picture skills are unsurpassed. The French sheep give me the creeps, as they keep looking at me. Pass those snacks, willya??

B - my midwestern isolation reared its head when I heard the British application of "ginger" for the first time when David Tennant took on the role of Dr Who. Imagine the perplexity of him musing in the mirror "I wanted to be ginger..." What's he talkin' about...Gillegan's Island?? Lovin' the tune, buttons up!

Zar - There would seem to be some precedent for the red dye, if it is never explained. Must sheepisly admit, I've never read Hardy. Thanks for the lesson.

Scotfree - yes, I too experience a lot of this. Seems it's almost becoming an inevitable part of the recent MOG experience. Usually shutting down the browser (I use explorer) , completely (all windows with it open), and rebooting it seems work, but that's a pain. . Also, have convince myself past couple days, that if you shut off any button you are listening to before leaving the page, you are less likely to have this problem. So, I stop the stream before clicking back or whatever, if I remember. . Red Buttons are still the only buttons I'll do. If it's yellow it might be great, but I'm not listening. I hope MOG keeps respecting that, and I encourage anyone who posts, whenever possible make your buttons red! An easy way to fool the system into not trying to force you to use Rhapsody'd files is to put a double space in front of the track name when tagging songs. . Hopefully the new dedicated servers and upgrades will make this better. Though I must admit I have fears red buttons won't be seen as a money making proposition and not get the attention they deserve.

Hi Scot!

I haven't had too much trouble with the red button personally (and surprisingly). But I'm impressed with that red button video (2nd one particularly)...hilarious!! : )
