WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

Artist:
Album:
Track:
(54)

From their first outing in 1972, this was before Todd Rundgren's influence was forged in indelible ink. Still, a milestone that set the stage for much, much more Mael bros.

I vaguely recall the dual motivations, as a 16 yr old fanboy, for this purchase. First, of course, Todd produced. Second, the last track was a cover of the newly released Alice Cooper single - "No More Mr Nice Guy(or, as the Maels added)s"

as Borat learned.......................NOT!!!

Am I correct in recollecting that this album was originally released under the band name Halfnelson and later rereleased as Sparks?

I believe you are right, I had forgoten that. Just read the incl. booklet, synopsis: original bandname Halfnelson based in So. Cali, circulated demo under that name in '70 no interest from labels, all looking for the dreaded "singer-songwriters" Rundgren interested, secures them a deal at Bearsville Todd enhances demos for release, he makes a point NOT to tamper with material Not doing well after release, Bearsville suggests band name and cover change British youth respond to Ron's Hitler/Chaplin look and new band name regional hit with "Wonder Girl" and American Bandstand date '72

Thanks Scot! Sounds like Todd stuck to producing and stayed away from working on the other side of the glass on this one.
