Ohio, the galactic pinball machine. for about 6 hours yesterday. all the roads were slick as a freshly Zambonied hockey rink.
My son (17) and daughter (23) were an hour south at the closest ski park.(about an hour's drive SOUTH...remember that) My daughter and the friend who went with her had to go to the hospital to get the friends dislocated shoulder reset!! (owwich!) They took my son's car, so that left him with some other friends. Here's the call I got about 7 p.m.
son "hey dad, I'm with Sam and we're heading home"
me "ok"
son "we're going to Ohio Surf and Skate and then we're going to Mad River Mountain to a competition (1 1/2 hours NORTH)"
me "no you're not. roads are iced up bad and they're closing a lot of them. you come home"
son "well, that's not for you to say"
me "ha ha...we'll talk about it when you get here"
son "I'm not coming there. I'm going to Mad River...they're open 'till 3 a.m."
me "ha ha ha ...we'll talk about it when and if you get home"
son "that's not for you to say"
me "right...be careful"
the young independent hangs up on me. about a half hour later, I get another call...
son "dad, can you tell me why there is like, an hour and a half wait just to get on the interstate? We're not moving at all"
me "uh, maybe that ice storm??"
son "oh..."
sometimes, the universe shows parental kindness.
