Venus - "Beautiful Days"
Immortal, a film released in 2005 by director and Heavy Metal alumni Enki Bilal, is a captivating - if not riveting - story of the ancient Egyptian gods returning to a future Earth. Their pyramid/spacecraft floats above a seemy, Blade Runner-esque NYC - where political corruption is as common as biogenetic mutation. Horus (the eagle-headed god) needs to mate with a certain type of being that can slip through time (Jill-played by Lina Hardy in white skin and blue hair). To do this, Horus must possess a suitable earth form, which he finds - after a number of violently aborted efforts - in escaped revolutionary (played by Thomas Kretschmann), a prisoner and figurehead of a revolution against the mistreatment of mutants. He is accidentally release from a suspended animation prison ship, but loses a leg in the process. Horus fasions him a leg from a piece of subway track - a leg that he can only move if he co-operates with Horus' plan to mate with the female, by force if neccessary. I don't want to give away more of the plot, but if you likes your sci-fi thick and murky with a hint of futility against destiny - you may like this one.
Plus, it's got some great music sandwiched here and there. Sigur Ros, Julie Delpy and a frenchman (new to moi, but with a lot of releases) Alain Bashung with a creepy/indie cover of The Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin".
How could I have missed this one???

Sounds/looks groovy. Queued at Netflix. Is talking about films & music a regular feature 'round here?
Amber, I found it at the flea market and bought it from a sly woman sporting a monocle. Got another goodie from her I'll to recap this weekend!
Hiya popsilly (love that moniker btw)! I kinda missed out on all the welcoming mat activities, but glalad ta meet ya! We talk about whatever spark burns bright, and sometimes a film leads to exciting and fresh musical discoveries.
I tried to put the soundtrack, or at least parts of it, in a playlist(it's not the Dean Martin version of "June in January" in the film) but I thought this felt pretty good...
