WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

On the one hand, a friend of a co-worker is a professional astronomer. His name is John Chumak and he runs a very cool website over at http://www.galacticimages.com . My co-worker always passes along new visuals from John that, I suppose, just don't quite make the cut for his pro-for-sale catalog. Last weekend, he took these images of Jupiter and two of its moons (Europa and Io) from his backyard.

Europa

Io

Jupiter

On the other hand, these images reminded me of the fondly remembered Wings recording Venus and Mars (more planets), which led my mind a bit further back in time to my high school Pizza Manor hangout. Boy, did they have great submarine sandwiches. And a pretty good jukebox, too. I used to love finding good "B" sides and loading the jukebox up with the lesser heard variety. Like this Mac flip to the classic "Hi Hi Hi"

Those pictures, taken from someone's backyard probably using a big ole honking telescope, just scream techie nerd geek.

    Love it.

I've wanted to have a huge honkin' telescope for years.

    That is just cool.

Anna, I don't know what submarine sweet and submarine shots are (although I assume at least one of them is alcohol related), but a submarine sandwich is a long sandwich (usually a foot long) full of different sorts of things, depending.  They're also called grinders, hoagies, or dagwoods depending on what part of the country you're from.  And probably a lot of other terms as well.

Ah, I see, thank you Groony :)

From wiki: one typically Greek spoon sweet is the snow-white and intensely aromatic Βανίλια [va'nilja], which is not made of vanilla, but of mastic resin, for which the Aegean island of Chios is famous. This is usually served as a spoonful of sweet on a spoon dropped into a tall glass of ice-cold water and called "βανίλια υποβρύχιο", 'vanilla submarine'.

The alcoholic submarine is a shot, sort of. You fill a low glass with beer, and inside it you put a shot glass filled with whiskey, and you drink the whole thing like a shot. It's a killer...

Anna, thank you for the culture cuisine. the vanilla sub dounds delicious! 'Round these parts, the alcoholic sub is called a boilermaker - and yes they are killer!
