WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Slow Club

Posted about 1 year ago

Hello friends. The summer days are quickly drifting away 'round here. It's turned a bit unseasonably cool, the ac has been off for three days now. I've got a few new discoveries I'd like to share. Slow Club is a UK pop folk duo currently touring their homeland. Let Rebecca and Charles (who needs last names anyway?) fill your room with their minimal melancholy. I got a feeling they'll soon be headed to world-wide venues, because the sweet-sad melodies and harmonies these two craft are as fresh and pleasant as could be.

Charles takes the lead on this one.

so forget the politics of living alone and dance till the morning light."

Here's Rebecca covering The Mae Shi's "Run To Your Grave"

My first exposure to Jazz was in a club in Paris called "The Slow Club."  This is definitely not that, but thanks anyway!

Ha! No, cbw, it's not too very close to jazz, but wouldn't it be funny to see Slow Club in The Slow Club? For the first few days, I had a hard time remembering this band name for some reason, now you've given a landmark-thanks!

If you ever saw the film "Killing Zoe"(it's not very good, so I don't recommend it) I believe there is a scene where they are in a cavernous club in Paris, and that was it.  It was like something out of a movie - very cool, very jazz...

As you mention it, I've never seen "Killing Zoe" - but your description brings to mind the film "Absolute Beginners" and the club scene where Sade plays. I'm gonna have to dig that out...

here's the very, um, "uninteresting" story (in Rebecca's words now...) of how they named their band - plus lewd acts with  manequins!
