three cheers for hibernation

The Vines-I'm Only Sleeping (from the I Am Sam ost)
Inevitably, winter brings a lot of drowsy moments. With all its cold, wet, dark and boring swaths of time; it's no wonder that some of our less "highly evolved" mammalian counterpoints choose to hoard it up and dream the winter away. Even the scientific term - "hibernation" - stirs up cozy longing as it rolls off the tongue. Go on, try it yourself ... and ......see ......... what ... I, huh ...hmmm, mmmm........mean.
So, how about you? Do you spend a lot more time dozing (or wishing you were...) in winter? Does the comfort of sleep help drive away seasonal depression, brought on by the cold rain and inclement climate? Don't worry. Why, even the legendary, revolutionary Beatle himself was prone to such lethargy:
Maureen Cleave, a friend of Lennon's, wrote, "He can sleep almost indefinitely, is probably the laziest person in England. 'Physically lazy,' he said. 'I don't mind writing or reading or watching or speaking, but sex is the only physical thing I can be bothered with any more.'" (wiki)
I can't swear it was due to weather withdrawal, nor can I be made to care at the moment. It's nap time

Love the artwork.
Also, is that video from the Beatles cartoon? My boyfriend has all of them and was recently showing my oldest daughter who fell in love with them. I couldn't quite get over the voices used, but the music - well love it always.
I tend to sleep less in the dreary weather, though I'm not sure why. I do tend to "hibernate", at least in preference, choosing to stay indoors and a movie and/or book with a blanket and a snuggle over actually going out places in this type of weather/time of year.
I look outside, while typing this comment, and the skies are grey and foggy and rain is pouring down - yeah, right now I'd rather be sleeping.
Nice post.
When ever I listen to The Vines around people that have never heard of them, They always ask who they are. I thank a friend who turned me on to them a couple of years ago. Good Band....
I dream of hibernation. Something about the sun not rising till 7 or so is unnatural. Thanks to Ben Franklin trying to save money on candles. Alas, I spend everyday outside, rain or shine. When i'm not freezing my arse off it's a beautiful thing.
I'm trying to break the winter spell. Yes, lyqdisc, those Beatle cartoons are a hoot (psst, I was watching them when they were brand new!), agree the voices are a bit sub par. My son is an avid snowboarder, and can't comprehend staying in, but see...you're feeling the effect. You have put up some really nice imagery in your recent posts...me, I'm trying to shake off a commenting malaise.
I really liked The Vines out of the chute RockW, but sort of lost my enthusiasm a few discs in. Seemed their output was kind of uneven, then, I recently learned of Craig Nicholls battle with Asperger syndrome. That has re-wetted my appetite I'd say...
I think that's a part of the prob too, PM....deskjob in the city, Robin Hood and William Tell and Ivanhoe and Lancelot don't envy me. Lancelot Link, now that's another story...
it's the cold - I hate the cold

Great post! I know dark, dank weather sometimes gets me down or makes me l
azylazier. So ya wanna hibernate? Just try it, on Ipanema beach:
Summer winter, day night, I sleep. I feel the need to sleep often and it comes ridiculously easy to me. I'm a sleep enthusiast; I need 10 hours a day. If I get less, I feel nauseous. Really.
