the Hoople

If someone posed the rather juvenile query "what's you're favorite rock band of all time?", no doubt I would answer Mott. I mean, even after stellar strummer Mick Ralphs left the band to be replaced by ex-Spooky Tooth Luther Grosvener (who changed his name to "Ariel Bender" just for this band??) - and - they let bassist Overend Watts step to the mike(on this cut); they still left an impression that smolders to this day. Did you know that Mick Jones (the Clash one) followed Mott as a fanatic fan-boy all around England in their early years?

  4. contrabandwidth says I saw Ian Hunter, years ago doing some solo stuff on TV, and was very impressed. I may have actually owned this one on vinyl, but never got to give it a proper spin. Definitely have to find this one on CD so I can give it another listen.

  7. scotfree says yeah brit, nice tag. Mott were a workingman's rock band preceding glam by a good 4 lps. Just read recently that they were never too comfortable with the glam fanbase...
