WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

A few years back, the gritty, sticky rap-hop lo-fi sounds of britain's newly coined "grime" scene intrigued...and pushed me to embrace the MCstylings of Lady Sovereign. After a period of extened plays, tracks like "Hoodie" and "Love Me or Hate Me" dropped to the back of the playlist rotation. Gotta admit, I guess she slipped my mind...might have something to do with the fact that I, ahem, rarely get out to places where that kind of music can best be enjoyed - a club setting. When her new set "Jigsaw" was released back in April or May, I took little notice, continuing to fill my ears with more rockin' or shoegazey sounds and preferring to leave the offshoots of rap and hip-hop to be enjoyed during those brief intervals when the teen-driven autos boomed down the neighborhood streets.
Well, low and behold, I finally gave "Jigsaw" a listen while jogging in the park a few nights back; and I loved it! This girl is growing sonically, and while the disc veers off into the realm of pop, it does so by way of Sandanista!-ish by-paths that really surprised me. Plus, when the break hits in "I Got You Dancing" and she croons "you wanna drink? I bet you do...you wanna drink? come get me too..." it's just so damn Marilyn Monroe sexy!!
Oh, and the toxic? Lady SOV rolls off the tongue a lot slicker than Louise Amanda Harman, don't it??

"Food Play"

"I Got You Dancing"

In the absence of a club, great running tunes!

    KEVIN! Fo' shame, ahahahahaha!

I must admit I wasn't all that impressed w/her debut BUT this is a whole different ball o' wax. A vast improvement for sure, liking this alot. And she's actually doing some singing too which makes her sound more interesting. Thx for an update on her!

Yeah! Been on board since "Love Me or Hate Me," and I've gotta say that "I Got You Dancing" is a kick-ass follow-up. And what can you say about the vid, where she's channeling Adam Ant, Pinky Tuscadero and "The Warriors"? Cooooolio! (But singing, August? Oh, that auto-tuning!)

Hey now Kev, this is a family site. You're insane bro...whoops, you knew that...

Hell yeah on them glasses Sam! Alas, your on point, not much timidity in this lass.

See now August, we have a whole school for "acceptable autotune applications in modern entertainment"...we need a copywrite!!

Mike, I was a bit (delightfully)surprised at the retro-themed dance vid...they got the look done up nice there!!

I just wanted to post about this incredible band that is too new to be known; straight outa Brooklyn, NYC. They have recently added cutting edge Audio Visuals to their show, (as shown in the video below) which features the late and incomparable Nina Simone - using the new Serato Video-SL technology.

J.Viewz feat. Nina Simone - Seeline Woman from J.Viewz on Vimeo.

Please share with your friends. The music is a masterful melding of Electronic, Jazz, Reggae, and Breakbeat for which the band has garnered numerous awards.

The award winning project arrives for one late night Midnight Groove set at the Blue Note in NYC on Friday, Nov. 6th, 2009.
