WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Happy funk to U

Posted about 1 year ago
I don't venture many Funky Friday posts, as I can easily recognize the superior wisdom and knowledge some 'o youse has in that arena. I'm generally content to be entertained. But, as I sit here doing (blah) taxes this evening, this strat-o-blaster classic from Mr. Beck felt quite post-worthy. Enjoy!

  4. Bartleby says Damn, that Jeff Beck can funk you up... Mr Beck would have his right place along with people like Johnny "Guitar" Watson and Eddie Hazel. Scot, you funk us good.

  6. Blue Meenie says Gotta love Jeff :))) The man certainly has the chops. Great choice, as it has a definite funky groove to it. I'd totally forgot that track, but not the album. It's a classic!

  8. Cody B says That drum opener is a monster...Prince Paul's favorite..the guitar is way less than shabby. When funk and fusion were a dirty words in the early 90's (not for me). There are similarities, and it's good to them them both back in style or at least getting some props.

  9. scotfree says DMDM - ya. I'll take mine med rare! RGM - I can just picture the rummaging :) poe - yeah, I'm usually all over the map. are your "fff"'s in ref to the pic? how observant!! Blue - def smokes through the whole spin. think I'll load it again! SD - surprised myself at how great it sounded. rediscovered treasures are sometimes breathtaking Cody - as I remember, at the time, Jeff did not get as many props for this as he should have as it followed on the heels of the classic "Blow By Blow" and was not as guitar focused. Now, it sounds at least as good if not better. and that sparse intro beat...you got it!

  10. Cody B says Holy shit, what a lot of typos I made..I meant to say when funk and fusion were dirty words the 2 camps kinda melded together..I remember you could always find stuff from the Meters and Funkadelic in the Ice magazine ads for (the name escapes me) a distributor in Maryland that carried obscure new releases from the J. Beck,Tony Williams, J. McLaughlin-types. It was all about the instrumental virtuosity..Then hiphop and the Jam band folks kinda pushed fusion and funk back to the limelight..or at least that's my theory.
