WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

More Adrian Belew 4U

One of my favorite tracks of all time, by any artist, is this Adrian Belew track from the 1989 release "Mr. Music Head". It really should be held back for a warm July night post, but here's hoping this one will bring some warmth to your wintry season. Beautifully punctuated with a light bebop piano riff and pseudo(?) reed section solos,"One Of Those Days" focuses on those beautiful moments when God lets us enjoy life to the fullest while the Supreme one himself drifts off on a cosmic snooze. "I guess", God said,"It's time to let the little people havetheir salad dayssomebody cut the rain, let there be lawn chairs in the shadefor everyonebe sure to give it the works, the barbecues and the fireworksand make certain the night is fairfor my lovers in pairsI'll be behind the sun,now let these things be done, uh huh,it's one of those days"We had iced-up beer in the park with the picnic gearuh huh, the salad daysbetween the hoots and shoutswe were knockin' a volleyball aroundevery which waytan dads without no shirts, young things tucked under skirts,a baby girl whose face is smirched with some dessert, bad boys hurtin' their bikesshootin' for the world-record psycheone of those daysNow sometime later onGod peeked from behind the sun, he said,"Looks like it's all worked out and I can rest a while"God had His Great Snoozeand through the trees a sleepy breeze blewit was one of those days.

  1. scotfree says For this disc, Adrian employs his trademark guitar virtuosity as color and spice, composing on piano. Many songs bear striking similarity to earyl MaCartney solo work. No where is this homage more obvious on the final (lp) track "1967".

  3. Augusts1 says Adrian is a pretty incredible musician/songwriter. I got to see him when he toured w/The Bears & they put on an incredible live show. I have quite a few of his albums(including this), since he has always been such an innovator. Thanks for posting this(btw Scot, you have this album tagged incorrectly as "Salad Days" not "Mr. Musichead")
