sooo...smack dab in the middle of Hot Chip's "Shake a Fist" (about 1:55 in), I was quite startled to hear a familiar voice "Before we go any further, I'd like to show you all a game I made up..." Immediately recognizeable, at least to me. Which of you youngsters can identify artist/song? (no cheating now...)

no clue - of course, that pretty much defines most of my adult life - at least I think I'm an adult :-) It kinda sounds like Mr. Weeblestandt who taught "The Economics of Physics" back in 86 when I was attempting to "make something" of myself.
Hey, welcome to tonight's hot topic inrum! Though he did audition for the part, I'm sorry to say it is not Mr. Weeblestandt - and you're about...oh...14 years late.
darn!! I coulda swore
Sounds like a Tom Petty riff to me.
no no no....the voice. the voice that comes in at a minute fifty five seconds into the track and starts by saying "Before we go any further, I'd like to show you all a game I made up..."
Who is that is the question....but you're answer "a Tom Petty riff" has been forwarded to the Dean for official comparison...
*wishes he could delete comments*
perhaps I should have added that the video has nothing to do with the question...just the red button...
sounds like someone who appeared in a movie with kevin costner
Sounds kinda like Dave Foley from Kids In The Hall and Mr.Rogers
inrumford - no, not a soundtrack
[wrong answer buzzzzer] sorry Cody, nope...it's from a 1972 recording that spawned 2 top pop radio hits.....
I don't know who the gentleman is, but this is a great song. I need to pay more attention to Hot Chip!
They surprised me too Anna, and - as it turns out - their roots mesh with mine!
Dicky Goodman..
I thought you were joking at first...maybe so, but still a darn good guess. I think I kinda sorta remember this...
still, not the answer. I'll post it up when I get home tonight.
No joke..I was waiting in line on release day for Dickie Goodman joints.
annnnddd, the answer isss -
Todd Rundgren!
The track, simply titled "Intro" on the cd release, functioned as the opening to his track "Breathless" (which was track 1, side 2, disc 1 of the vinyl)
might as well soothe you with what followed-
incredibly (or not, in this age) there is a wiki page for this one song.
