WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Sneaking in a Sunday Uncover

HHmmm - not sure if Robert Palmer is mog-worthy (does this concept resonate with others). His cover of "Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley" is a perenial fave, but let's take two stps back to Lee Dorsey's version.

  7. waydutch says Dachmo, checked out your earlier post, learning a lot today, had though of this as a Little Feat song as I heard Lowell Goerge do this with them in concert back in like 77 (a definate nomination for the best show I've ever seen), though can't find a Little Feat version listed anywhere. Then saw the first song from the Palmer album included Sailin' Shoes, a classic Little Feat song, and Hey Julia another song I'm sure I've heard Lowell do, though again no listing. A little more checking and I found out Lowell did guitar on the Palmer album, never made this connection before. Scotfree, thanks for reminding me of and helping bring me up to speed on a song that has always struck me and stuck in my head, yet, which I was really didn't know much about.

  8. scotfree says Wow, how wrong can I be?? I thought the mention of Mr. Palmer would be met with a stony silence, so he would remain a guilty pleasure. Well, looks like I can come outta the closet on this one. Thanks for tunin' in everyone!!!

  9. Cody B says One thing is for sure..until "addicted" RP exhibited great taste in his song choices. On that first record he did 2 Toussaint songs, a Toots Hibbert song brought the title of the second record, he did a Don Covay tune on his 3rd, Kinks and Toussaint again on the 4rth record, and the list goes on. Coupled with his heavy Lowell/Feat connections, I don't think you even have to be secretive scotfree. Even on the Riptide LP featuring Addicted to Love, he turns around and covers Earl King's Trick Bag for the song right after the hit.
