Well, outside of working my tail off this week, I've been spending the spare moments catching up on posts (and harrassing fistula, sorry) by my trusteds and other new great stuff by other moggers. As it now seems appropriate to start a new post, I must once again look a bit over my shoulder because I'm not keyed into the new stuff like some, uh, younger moggers. Seems to me like there's not nearly enough on mog about Big Audio Dynamite. Mick Jones' dance rock (very Hip, perhaps not quite Hop) band he started after getting kicked out of The Clash. These discs have spent an enormous amount of time between my ears. I'll try to hit some obscure highlights from each incarnation of the band in future posts, but today I'd like to highlight my favorite - "Tighten Up Vol. '88"Here's a bit of an autobiography by the man himself - "Battle Of All-Saints Road"Well, that's the flavor. The part that's missing here is the great adaptation of the old standard "Battle Of New Orleans" into the battle for reggae freedom. This recording is a wild homage to reggae and glam, as if Marley and T. Rex were jamming with Pink Floyd. Your head may now be crying out "wwhhhaaa???" but yes - listen to "Mr Walker Said"Yep, it's like that. Chock full of grooves and licks and samples and creativity. I'll put the CD version of "The Battle Of All Saints Road" in comments.Oh yeah, the cover was painted by Paul Simonon

I can take it. I'm made of plastic. B.A.D. sounds pretty good. I like the video quite a bit. I'm partial to the strings sound on the track you posted too. Good stuff scotfree.
