We all agree, incest is WRONG...but never before has it sounded so right.
When Margo and Richie Tennenbaum are reunited at the bus depot in Wes Anderson's new classic 'The Royal Tennenbaums', Nico's timeless 'These Days' helps me to forget just how creepy that scene should be!
And as an added bonus...Mates Of State covering the same song:

I love love love both versions of this song. Also, I don't know why i didn't mention it until #7, but this series is great!
Hahaha...I am trying to pace myself on the Wes Anderson and the Sofia Coppola moments...I could probably do 50 JUST of those two!
haha I don't blame you! I was thinking about doing a series along the lines of "great music in crappy movies". Because I certainly watch a lot of bad movies with good music in it! Not trying to steal your great idea, I swear! ;)
Do it! I love movies...love em!! I'd be curious to see just how many bad ones you have made it through
watching movies and listening to music is pretty much all I do when not sleeping, working or taking classes (read: loser!). So, I've inevitably seen quite a few bad movies. I think I will do it; Now it's just a question of where to start!
Losers unite! I'm right there with you...start with Brendan Fraser...he has made more bad movies than anyone!
lol! Good idea. I think I just found a future film that may fit the bill...Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist starring Michael Cera. I obviously havent seen it yet since it comes out in October, but I bet it won't be good since I really don't care to watch Michael Cera play the same character again (and again and again). but the music is a part of the story and the trailer lists music by Band of Horses, Shout Out Louds, The Raveonettes, etc.
OH man, Michael Cera is making bad movies already...so young, so talented...but yeah, he probably doesn't have a lot of range, acting wise.
great post - i love the way wes anderson used donovan in "rushmore'' (i think it was rushmore)
the whole idea of jackson browne being mixed up in the whole max's/velvet/warhol scene (and nico doing her marlene dietrich overlay on his california mellow sound) was so inherently incongruous it was kind of rich....
as Royal would be quick to point out...she WAS adopted at least...heh
good stuff...that's now two Wes Anderson inspired MOG posts I've come across in the last two minutes...and me likey
I second what Lyrikhan said...but I would also put the "Judy Is A Punk" scene and Ritchie Tennenbaum suicide attempt to "Needle In The Hey" up against it as well.
Very well done, B.
Plus, the only movie in which I could stand Paltrow. That says a lot, believe me ;)
i will never, ever tire of the Margot-Richie Tennenbaum angle. and an added Mates of States!
i haven't gone to the very bad movies yet but Splendor, All The Real Girls, and Who Loves The Sun are all okay to so-so movies (in my book) with great music in 'em. plus, underrated use of "British new wave" music in the awesome The History Boys. that's my mental list so far. (8
