SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

SING FOR STRINGS

Posted over 2 years ago
I would die for strings. I always think they totally make the song. They add whole new sonic layers and dimensions to the entire emotion of songs. You can't go past the obvious - Bittersweet Symphony. Then there's Tonight Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins, Emotion Sickness by Silverchair, and a personal favourite - What You Want by The John Butler Trio. Your favourites?

  5. holyfool says How about the delicious entirety of Portishead's live album, with an orchestra backing them up. The string section really adds depth to the music. Nothing on this earth can sound as sad as a violin...

  6. ix3johnbender says I remember singing Bittersweet Symphony when I was like six or something. Your Ex-Lover is Dead by Stars and the whole Ugly Organ album by Cursive (but especially the song Gentleman Caller) make excellent use of cello. And you're right. Something about the sound of strings makes music so much more poignant.
