WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Incubus. My body still hurts, two days later

Posted over 2 years ago
Saturday was the River Riot. The River Riot is a radio rock festival put on by independent radio station 89.7 The River from Iowa Western Community College. It's something that a bunch of friends and I have been going to the past few years. We don't care who's on the bill, we just go to spend all day drinking with each other, accompanied with bajillions (maybe not quite that many) of other people and rock music. This year's lineup:Simon DawesThe ExiesFuelBuckcherryPapa RoachHinderIncubus...See, I said radio rock festival.Anyway, it was awesome. I spent most of my time up front, as close to the stage as I could get. I was always floating around the 2-to-5-person-back-from-the-barricade area. It was very intense.I didn't get to see much of the performances cuz I was too busy trying to stay alive. And I don't mind, because I find that very fun, and I wasn't too interested in the bands anyway, since I had already seen Buckcherry live.I really did want to see Incubus, though, but I could not. That was terrilble. I've been to my share of metal shows and the roughness of the crowd for Incubus compares right up with them. There weren't pits or anything, it was just packed so tight and there was a lot of pushing. Have you ever been pushed down on top of somebody else and spent about five minutes beneath the crowd with no way to move?Damn. I wasn't scared for myself, but I was scared for the girl I was on top of. Neither of us could breathe. But after a bit, some people managed to free their arms and help us up.Stayed there for a few more songs, until my shoe came untied and I couldn't move my foot to keep from falling when pushed, so I opted to get out and meet some other friends and watch from the hill.Incubus' last song was "Aqueous Transmission" which kinda surprised me. They broke out the sitar and it was good to watch. I caught a video of some of it, but it's not very good quality because it's just a digital camera and I was pretty far away. But, here it is anyway:Here's the mp3 of the song:

  2. sam9muhr says Yeah. It was the second time I'd seen them live and it's always good. Frontman Josh Todd does a really good job keeping the crowd going - great performance. And there must be something about this band that makes girls want to lift up their tops... (No, not me.)

  4. HalfManHalfMog says Sam... sounds like what happened to me this past weekend. I was at a similar type concert here in NYC, The Village Voice Siren Music Festival. It was beyond packed. Everyone pushing trying to get some room to stand. Some people got fo fed up that they climbed a nearby fence and were willing to sit on top of it even though there was rusty barbed wire all over their backs. I got some pictures of the crowds which I was planning on posting sometime this week. Needless to say it was craziness.

  5. sam9muhr says Holy wow. The River Riot wasn't really like that; it was just really tight when you got on the ground level, but I'd like to see those pics you got. Ca-razy.
