I went to a concert last night in Des Moines. It was awesome as awesome.I went mainly (pretty much only) for *Shinedown*.The crowd was rough at some points, but it was a lot easier to be in than most of the shows I go to. I'm thinking a lot of it has to do with the population of females.. Most of the shows I go to, it is quite the sausage fest.Saliva was really fun. They did a lot of crowd interaction, and most of their songs' choruses were easy to catch on to. It seemed to me that their songs are crafted to be fun live, so the crowd can go along with it. Y'know what I mean? Simple choruses over and over for a lot of them. Then they'd just go into aSaliva: "1 , 2!"Crowd: "Fuck you!"and a lot of other chanting things every couple few songs.I especially liked how they announced that it's bitches first. Because "guys, if you don't have ladies to go home with, then whaddaya got?" Some dickhead guys didn't get it, though. I got separated from my two girlfriends that I went with, but it was great bein with whoever I was near at the moment. I was second person from the front, most of the time, and I made partners out of the chicks around me. When some douchebag would try to push through us, we formed a brick wall. Ha! No one got past me and my random crew. So, Saliva was pretty cool. I don't think I'd buy their stuff, but it was a good show. Then *Shinedown* came on and took it away. It was really amazing. They definitely know how to get the crowd into it, and their songs seem so much heavier live than on CD. Before I ever saw them live, I expected much different of a performance. I dunno. But I love Shinedown. They did a tribute to assassinated/killed people who "made a difference," mentioning Dimebag, JFK, Martin Luther King, Jr., and everyone else who made a difference and was taken from us.They also mentioned the founder of Atlantic Records, who had passed away, and told a little story of all of the great acts he signed, including them. And ya can't forget the soldiers. They told us about their trip overseas to play for the military and dedicated a song to them. Told us if we ever see a man in uniform, to thank them. All these things, including others, were told in between songs. Everything sounded great. The songs were awesome. The crowd was awesome (except the occasional few). The performance was awesome. The emotion was awesome. Don't know how else to put it! Something else I wanna mention is that they had everyone put their hands in the air and hold hands with our neighbors, to come together as one. It's kinda cheesy if you think about it, but it was actually really cool. (Then, right after, there was a little commotion behind me and someone got kicked out. Some people just don't get it.)And am I the only one who has noticed how the vocalist, Brent, looks/acts a lot like Ozzy on stage?! Seriously. Sometimes I think he tried to imitate him.So, to sum it all up, Shinedown was awesome. :-PThen, Three Days Grace came on and they were alright. The crowd was obviously way more into Shinedown, and even more into Saliva than 3DG. No disrespect, but their show was stolen from them. To me, a lot of their songs are dull, but there are a couple stand-outs. They weren't very active and sometimes they didn't sound very good as there was a lot of painful sounds coming from the speakers.Found my friends. They pussed out on me and were standing near the bar area watching. Bought a Shinedown tee. Drove home to Exira. Got out of my drenched (seriously) clothing and took a beautiful shower and went to sleep with damaged ears. Still can't hear and it's very annoying to me as well as whoever's talking to me. :)[Oh yeah, I didn't have a camera with me :-(. I lost it a couple weekends ago. (Take a clue from the key word: weekend. Ha. Yay for Christmas being soon! :-p)]
