Chris Cohen was a guitarist in Deerhoof. Recently he announced that he would be leaving the band to focus on his then side project (now full project?)
The Curtains. Although The Curtains have been recording since 2000, this is the first release which Chris wrote and produced himself. He even performs a majority of the instrumentation on the album. Calamity has an eccentric style (the Deerhoof comparisons will abound, I'm sure), but I'd call it meandering pop mish-mash. I can see this being one of those summer records that will always remind me of sunny days foreshadowing warm thundershowers. Chris was joined on this record by a number of notable guests: Nedelle Torrisi (now a full-time member of the band), Annie Lewandowski (also a member now), John Ringhofer (Half-Handed Cloud), Yasi Perera (album art and vocals) and Corey Fogel (ex-Mae Shi).Sample a song -
