A question

It seems like everywhere I go, people don't like Nickelback. But, I never hear anyone say *why* they don't like them. I'm not a huge fan or anything, but I like some of their stuff. So, MOGgers out there that don't like Nickelback, can you tell me why?

  1. max says i hate nickelback...ha, honestly it's one of the few things that i think needs nothing to back it up..my reason...first album i ever bought was silver side up when i was like 11, a time for me and music i never want to go back to

  4. Anonymous says I don't like their lyrics....seems like they will just throw a word in here and there because it rhymes....not because it makes sense to the song.

  5. democlez says I admit to Nickelback bashing, even though I own one of their CDs and still have a few of their songs in my library. I think the thing that makes them so disliked is that (in Canada at least) they are over-played. Over-exposure can make you sick of just about any artist. Thing is, they didn't come up with one single, get overplayed, then die like other one-hit-wonders; they followed it up with a sting of other overplayed hits. This makes them an easy target. That's my explanation at least.

  6. eshep says personally, i don't like nickelback at all. they seem to represent everything that i dislike about the whole post-grunge/nirvana mainstream rock thing. and for the most part it is that the songs are very formulaic and unimaginative. listen to this side by side comparison of two of nicekback's songs played simultaneously. and i haven't spent a lot of time with their lyrics, for obvious reasons, but what little i've heard is more of the same macho posturing and misogynist vibe that rubs me the wrong way. i will say this. they're talented. at creating very formulaic, infectious melodies that are not terribly challenging, and virtually devoid of any remarkable artistic vision. but that's jut me. a lot of people love them.

  7. democlez says Errr that was suppose to be "...they followed it up with a *string*..."

  9. sage1979 says Democlez - I guess I'm just lucky I don't listen to the radio lol I can see where overexposure would definitely lead people to dislike them. Eshep and Anti-Amy - I'll definitely have to check out the lyrics more and that website after I'm more clear headed. Though I do have to say that yeah, they are at least talented enough to not become one hit wonders and continue creating catchy tunes.

  14. Midas says Yeah, I find the same thing with Creed. I listen to the heavy stuff but still enjoy some Creed. My friends who also listen to the heavy stuff hate Creed. Regarding Nickleback, I think lots of people dislike them cos of that first song of theirs. "How you Remind Me" or whatever. They seriously overplayed that crap over here (South Africa, yes South Africa!) and I think that has lead to their downfall.

  15. sage1979 says Overkill on the radio will damage any band, I think. I dislike Creed, but not because it's not heavy enough. I dislike them for entirely different reasons, which I may just save for a future MOG post hehe Wow, Nickelback got overplayed in South Africa? craziness...

  16. Bloodstorm669 says ok let me start off by sayin that being overplayed is in no way a bands fault, that is a bittersweet side effect of being popular, the blame for it goes to the masses...i remember the first song i heard by Nickleback.......Leader Of Men.....great song, but i think that people expected something more from the rest of the album, they are not that different from say like older Bon Jovi.....they are a big time Rock Band......theyre not Metal, not Grunge, not even watered down.....i find them quiet classic feeling......they know what theyre doin....and as far as lyrics go, i think they do a good job of keeping it simple....we (the masses) can be too caught up in the genre game.....people hear a new band and go ok so what "kind" of rock is it????....who cares.....it's rock....and i agree with kc on this...either it moves you or it doesnt....for those of you who dont like a band because theyre song's are overplayed.......congradulations.....your a metal drone......no better than a pop drone
