Snob

Posted over 5 years ago
I've been a fan of Taproot since the first time I heard "Poem". Song after song, they impressed me. Then came Blue Sky Research. Automatically, Chuck and I bought the CD just because "OMG it's Taproot!" Chuck listened to it first in the car. He came home with a look on his face that said "oh what did I just waste my money on?" So I took a listen. I didn't like it. Nope. It didn't sound like their older stuff, therefore, it sucked. Yep, that was my stance. And then it occurred to me that if every band put out a cd that sounded like their previous cds music would be damned boring. If my taste in music can evolve and change and I can experiment with different sounds, why can't a band? I was being a snob. I was being like an awful lot of other people that drive me nuts. So, I made myself sit down and *really* listen to it. I sat down with the lyrics, popped the CD into my computer and wouldn't ya know.. I liked it. A lot. "Birthday", "Calling", "Lost in the Woods"... those are some good songs. I'm really glad I gave the CD a second chance.

  1. RGM says Cool! Thought the snob thing was just the Jazz heads, I have a rep as someone who likes everything, and if it seems like I don't. I just say thats just not my thing, that what I said about new school Rap, I dig some N.W.A., Run DMC. Beastie Boys, Cypris Hill, but even that stuff is rare for me. Country, Folk aint' my thing, but intrested in hearing more bluegrass, saw some of the top blue grass players at an after N.A.M.M. show convention showcase back in the early 90's. Dude! They Fucking rocked! I've been wanting an uprite ever since, Jazz and experimental rock is the other reason, but Bluegrass musicians RIP! I know some of it is corney... LOL

  2. sage1979 says Nah, there's music snobs everywhere for probably every genre of music. That's generally my way of saying I don't really care for something.. It's just not my thing. There's a few bands/genres I absolutely can't stand, and I'll say as much if it comes up, but I won't condemn anyone else for liking it. I've never been able to get into Bluegrass. I was traumatized as a kid and ever since I just.. can't get into it lol

  3. that1guy says It seems to me that with each release of an album, Taproot just sounds more and more like all of the other bands out there, they are becoming numetal. I liked their first album Gift and kind of liked the one with Poem on it. That's been about it.

  8. jordansinferno says Taproot = great band. I too was hooked on them with "Poem", I have Welcome and Blue-Sky Research from them, going to get Gift when I get a chance. I think they have a great sound, you aren't going to like every song by a band, there are a few out there, but not too many. You didn't say it, so if you haven't heard all of Welcome, I suggest checking it out.

  9. sage1979 says Oh yeah I've heard Welcome. :D I've got Gift, Welcome, and Blue-Sky Research. I like and appreciate all three as individual albums. And you're right, I don't think there's a single band out there where I *really* like every single song. Even Tool (and I'm a big Tool fan) hasn't been able to pull that off.
