The Birthday Saw

Posted about 5 years ago
My husband and I often host a get to-gathering of musicians that begins to assemble around 8 in the evening. Our friends wind their way up our road to our little house in the trees to bring their instruments or just borrow one of ours, to share, to change the scenery, to press record and go home in the morning with a silver disk full of the night's musical contents.Lukebible brought a saw one night and I've been forever changed since. Though I've never had the urge to pick one up and attempt to play, I have always enjoyed the presence of a saw in a song. My husband gave me a saw as an early birthday present..almost a month early. I play a little every night and I think that it's going well. We play a show on the 24th and it will be my debut with that sweet saw. I just wonder if there is anything I should know about saw etiquette, or saw faux pas (haha)? I'm sure I'll find out the hard way. Listen to Jolie Holland's Ghost Waltz for the subtle saw, actually I recommend listening to this entire album...it's wonderful.

  1. MSGQuixo says Hooray saw. I'm sure you know Tom Waits Black Rider -- some of my favorite sawing. I'm sure saw etiquette has to do with restraint -- a little saw goes a long way. Though I'm sure a few of us would appreciate more. You've inspired me to break out my accordion.
