Gorillaz sans plastique

Kids with guns.Kids with guns.Taking overThey won't be longMy partner gave me this figurine set for Christmas last year. He got it at Kid Robot http://www.kidrobot.com in SoHo. I was so happy to get it!I fell in love with Gorillaz when I heard their first hit. I kept having this nagging feeling there was something familiar, then I realized that they sounded kind of like Blur. I was right. I love the eclectic nature of the music, tons of guest musicians, and concept in general.I attended their concert at the Apollo Theatre with great anticipation. I started wondering when we still standing in line an hour after the concert was supposed to have started. Finally they let us in! YAY! After another 40 minutes waiting for the show to start, the lead singer, Damon Albarn, came out on stage and apologized to the audience. He said they were having technical difficulties, but the show would go onDespite the fact there was no video the concert was excellent from a musical standpoint. You could tell, however, that the multimedia was an integral part of the show, as there were odd fits and starts between the songs, where something _should_ have gone in. There were all the guest musicians that were on the CD, a children's choir, a gospel choir, and a full complement of musicians, including a string section! The crowd was different than I expected. I assumed it would be mostly anime fans and college students, but the audience they attracted where from all ages and racial groups. All in all an excellent concert, despite the long delays and absence of video.
