Pre-Summer Ennui?

Posted about 5 years ago

Just graduated from NYU with my Bachelors (Finally!), and I'm going to enter grad school in the Fall. I've got my summer music, a summer free of school (but not work), so why do I already feel angst? Am I afraid of leaving my full-time job to jump into grad school?

I got _Zero Year_ by NIN, _Volta_ by Bjork, and _Sound of Silver_ by LCD Soundsystem.

_Zero Year_ is better than _With Teeth_. I like the idea of concept album, and the fact that Reznor has returned to a more sound-scapey synthetic form, while retaining elements of live instrumentation. That being said, who would have ever thought you'd hear "Everybody Sing Along Now" in a NIN song? Irony, I hope!
I was shocked to see Year Zero promoted by a Target Ad. WTF? NIN being promoted by Target? What's next, Wal-Mart promotions??? Hopefully it's part of the irony (please?).
I like _Volta_ better than _Medulla_, but I feel like the CD is _Medulla_ meets the soundtrack from _Drawing Restraint 9_. I've seen almost all of the Matthew Barney films. Despite Bjork's participation in the film, and her contribution of the soundtrack, it was all I could do to not walk out of the theater. Honestly, I felt Barney's exhibition at Gladstone Gallery was better than the film!
The jury is still out on LCD Soundsystem's new CD, _Sound of Silver_. I wish I could see him in concert, but I don't think I can make it. It seems like a transition from his Nike running sound scape and the first CD.
