WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Friends of Radiohead

If there is a better Radiohead song please tell me so I can listen to it, and then disagree with you. I know, so narrowminded of me, but Fake Plastic Trees is their best work. But if you feel otherwise state your case and let the battle begin.

  1. KezOnTour says Everything in it's right place. Perfection. Can't watch Fake Plastic Trees video after a friend stripped the song of it and played the video with Justin Timberlake's Cry Me A River over it. It worked too well.

  2. ScottyB says Can't argue with you on this one... It did bum me out a bit, however - After checking the post and the video I thought to myself that I really should listen to some Radiohead - As it turns out, _The Bends_ is one amongst countless discs that I have yet to digitize - So I headed off into the CD Books to dig it out and find it...And I couldn't find it - I did find _My Iron Lung_, which is something, I suppose... I also found _The Gospel At Colonus_ - Which I had been searching for forever and had beed very close to breaking down and buying a new copy of...So, I suppose its all good... But damn, this post did get me off my ass a damn sight more than I wanted to be when I got home tonight...

  3. sammyeatworld says No, I guess I'd have to agree. Fake Plastic Trees kicks total ass, and as well as being Radiohead's best, it's possibly the best song ever written. Period.

  4. cbowers says Along these same lines and keeping with the theme of 'strummables,' I'm more inclined to say Exit Music or No Surprises but if it weren't for FPT, there might not have been an OK Computer.

  5. WesSharp says National Anthem, hands down. Everything is perfect on that song, and even the imperfect horn parts at the end were composed that way, which makes them even more perfect.

  6. Anna says Lucky!

  7. Lester Jonze says Ah come on, it's not even the best song on the album. Bulletproof (I wish I was), Black Star, Sulk, Street Spirit (Fade out), are better. Um, Karma Police, Climbing Up The Walls for sure, um, Pyramid Song, and my own personal favorite, How to Disappear Completely. Other than that you are on the right track.

  8. Wozniak says Paranoid Android. Tough choice, because there're just so many with Radiohead.

  9. Brett Schieber says I agree about Fake Plastic Trees!

  10. Viva La Britt says "Paranoid Android" is pretty much a masterpiece. I want to say "Idioteque" should be a contender, but personal bias could be clouding my judgement.

  11. laurenj says it's off they're best album...but fake plastic trees is tied with high and dry. but thats me.

  12. Peggah says I definitely agree with Fake Plastic Trees. It loves me too. After I professed my love for it, it began stalking me. Bands were covering it at shows, it would play on VH1 all the time. It was great :D My favorite part is "If I could be who you wanted all the time". Mmmmmm. <3

  14. haggardpilot says I think I probably really agree. although I have a huge soft spot for Exit Music (For a Film).

  15. KezOnTour says Black Star smells funny.

  16. Jess Horrible says radiohead? meh. (runs away)

  17. 1234chainsaw says Lester: ...Other than that you are on the right track. Hilarity! FPT never really captivated me, not in the way that Black Star, Street Spirit, or Lucky did.

  18. El Monko and Son says I'm with Woz. I forgot to mention "Paranoid Android" in Blair's post the other day about "A Day In the Life" being a song that has it all. "Paranoid Android" has all the same qualities plus it has two parts wherein it totally shreds. And the pretty part is prettier. It also includes dust, vomit, and yuppies networking. Where else can you find all that?

  19. Dale says FPT is absolutely brilliant, but I'm more willing to go with "Street Spirit (Fade Out)", or "Idioteque", or "My Iron Lung". I need to spend a couple of days back in Radiohead-land.

  20. mister gary at work again says Yes, yes, I'm with Dale - reading this has made me want to crawl inside my Radiohead collection and hide for a few days. I'll have to work on that tonight.

  21. holyfool says Idioteque is my all time favorite Radiohead tune, but the highlight (for me) on _The Bends_ is "Street Spirit". "2+2=5" is awesome live.
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  22. rweyh04 says Street spirit is good but it's not my fave. Laurenj I love high & dry but there's something about this song that just puts it a notch above that as well as their others.
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  23. Anna says Bollocks, I forgot to mention Street Spirit. Jess, ha ha that was way cute :D
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  24. theDude says Paranoid Android. Great song writing. Yorke is the only one that can sing this, no cover will justify except for Brad Mehldau's version... Vocal harmonies, chord progression, time signature and tempo changes, and not to mention a badass guitar solo...everything a great rock song should have. Fake Plastic Trees is f'n great too but not the best to rep Radiohead.

  25. Zeroskilz says There are too many, way too many songs of theirs that I love. FPT is what really got me into Radiohead though. I never understood most peoples infatuation with Creep. The Bends is tied with Kid A for my favorite Radiohead albums. I love every song on both albums.
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  26. rweyh04 says Creep is good, not jaw dropping amazing but I like the song.
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  27. ennuikiller says oh, and electioneering is a great fucking song too!
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  28. tybees says I'd have to choose Exit Music mainly for that jaw-dropping finale - I feel the bass in my ??soul??. It's the most intensely beautiful 15 seconds of music I've ever heard. FPT is definitely in the top 5 though.
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  29. NinjaSquirrel says A WAY underated song by them is Wolf At The Door. That would be my favoright Radiohead song. I really like it because it is basically a spoken word rant by Yorke about his parinoia of the world. He is at his best when he is nervous and alone.

  30. hawaiianpunch says There's something about the most lyrically obvious, "Stop Whispering" that I really like. It's also one of their most rockin' songs. But, I agree, too, about "Fake Plastic Trees" .
    Permalink posted 01/11/2007
  31. John Madden says Gotta go with FPT, but I also love 'High and Dry', 'Creep' and 'Stop Whispering'. I prefer Radiohead when they played actual songs. (I'm going to pay for that one in later comments, I can feel it...) I do love their live cover of 'Nobody Does It Better', too.
