Fantastic! You blew me away. This seems to be the original for a great hit from 10 years ago or so by the "Turntablerocker". I thought, they invented the song, but evidently they covered. Hell, they are also only cooking with water (German saying, doesn't necessarily make sense in English) ;). Check this out (the resemblance is not that strong, but IT IS a cover):

Ahem. A little correction: Billy Prestons version is hell similar. When I wrote this, I only had heart Martin Sextons version. One should not comment too fast ... . But I was just too overwhelmed .. .

Actually a pretty cool dance cover. I think we say for good things "cooking with gas." Sometimes I start to think, man, everything's a cover or includes samples, are we running out of new ideas. But mostly I think it's a good thing, reaching back into the past, carrying along the tradition into the future.

Oh, I have no problem with covers. I think you're totally right, that covers often bring back forgotten songs and maybe also the attention for the old songs again. I just never thought, that this one would be a cover. I'm asking myself, if "No Melody" would have been such a big hit, if the people had known the original. The other big hit of the "Turntablerocker" was "A little Funk". If you now can tell me, that this is a cover too and denominate the original, you're my personal music god at least for this week ;).

Billy Preston was my first fave! I think I was in 2nd grade when Willl It...Circles came out. I believe that was my first album. Loved Outta Space! That was my gateway drug to instrumental pop music..something the world is sadly lacking these days.

I think I remember and like and liked his songs without putting them all together as a unified Billy Preston, but looking at him on YouTube, I am getting to like him a lot. Musikfriend mentioned today that he (Preston) was on the Nat King Cole show; he didn't say that Preston was 10, 11. Just getting ready to view that. Do you think that "Outta Space" is the basis for Hermes's Turntablerocker's "A Little Funk" (above)? If so, they actually had to slow it down.

Hermes's video of Turntablerocker's "No Melody" is quite imaginative and original visually. The bad news about my finding out now that Billy Preston's original version was a hit is that it's no longer my private discovery on a used $1 LP, but the good news is that I had the taste to select the winner on my own. This must happen to other Moggers: finding something, say, at a garage sale, and thinking you're one of the few people to know about it, and then hearing it playing at your local pharmacy.
