Storms sweep through Ark., Okla., Texas

Posted about 1 year ago
BENTON, Ark. - A band of hail, heavy rain and twisters pounded Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma, damaging hundreds of homes, flooding roads and leaving thousands without power. The worst wasn't over for Arkansas, which braced Thursday for another hit. Some residents in the small north Arkansas town of Leslie were being evacuated because of flooding and the threat of mudslides. Workers were sandbagging in places to keep flood waters at bay. Roads were flooded and people were being told to stay home. The state already is contending with three weeks of flooding and the aftermath of 10 tornadoes that struck last week.Read the full AP story herePatton's performance is expressive, to say the least.

  1. dermahrk says So glad that you are posting some Patton and that these yellow buttons are working for us poor Vista users. I love it when he is using his guitar as both a tonal and percussive instrument.

  2. runobodyii says I'm glad the yellow buttons are working for you. Too bad no Rhapsody in NZ for earthman. Sometimes his percussions makes me think of a heartbeat, starting to race. This is a good day - - music and books and MOG.

  3. matt cleveland says I was in this storm earlier in my car when it passed through Little Rock, and it wasn't pleasant... Thanks for the soundtrack to the storm!

  4. runobodyii says hel, if you ran into the storm in Little Rock (today?), I better call my mama down in Pine Bluff.

  5. matt cleveland says You might aughta. It's been a crazy week for weather around here...I think the worst of it just passed east of that area though.

  6. runobodyii says My mother says she thought the wind was going to blow her car off the overpass and my niece's after-school activity got cancelled, but they are home, safe and sound, getting ready to watch their soap.

  7. matt cleveland says That's good. My mamaw always used to call her soaps her "stories". I love to think about all the old ladies watching their stories in the mid-day.

  8. runobodyii says My great-grandmother on my father's side, Mo', who I got to know, started my mother watching General Hospital. I would also watch with Mo' or my mamaw (their houses stood side by side) when I was small. And my mother always tried to take her lunch at 2:00 so she could watch and when she couldn't we use to tape it on a portable tape recorder for her (she probably still has some of those tapes. Now it's my mother's grand-daughter that watches with her and they record it on DVR. Every now and then when I visit I backslide into it, but mostly I've given it up. My older sister's teenage rebellion was watching Guiding Light, same time slot on CBS. Yep, those stories.

  9. dermahrk says With more and more women in the workplace during the day, you have to wonder why soaps are not a dying TV genre. I imagine their audience size is smaller, but those that are at home still tune in. If most of the audience is grandmas, they may begin dying off as their audience does.

  10. matt cleveland says The Boomers are the retiring grandmas now, so it will be at least another 30 years before that generation dies out...except the pride themselves on not being like any other generations, so maybe they will ignore soaps entirely. Just like everything else in this world...who knows.

  11. runobodyii says There is also the SOAP network that airs all of the day's soaps each evening and in marathons over the weekend, in addition to TIVO and DVR which means that no one has to watch anything at the time it's originally aired. As for me, I only get ABC reliably and may actually prefer baseball on the radio, al least during regular season play.
