Posted almost 4 years ago
"Talking Old Soldiers" was the first Bettye LaVette song I heard.Next is "Sleep to Dream / I Do Not Want What I Have Not Got." This is truly kick A$$. Can she sing! "Joy / Let Me Down Easy - Jools - 11-11-2005"Bettye LaVette Interview"Before the Money Came (The Battle of Bettye LaVette" A damn shame it took the music biz 40 years to come round to her.

  1. Cody B says Lovin' Bettye. This is a rare case where I think the comeback material trumps her early sides, but just for comparison, here's a few from the late 60's, early 70's. The older material does have a few more uptempo jams, but the new ballads are gorgeous. Do Your Duty .....~tqPTaGBfgaa.mp3~ Let Me Down Easy ~sVXJiCEYitR.mp3~ It Ain't Easy ~jd0IKla6yyG.mp3~

  2. runobodyii says Thanks for posting these sides. I agree with you on the new material being stronger. And really it wasn't exactly the same voice; all those years have given her something, and no one seems more aware of that than LaVette herself. The ballads, the voice, her tenacity, much to admire in this old broad.
