Point your browser to KUSF.org to hear what my pal Peter Ellenby is saying about his rock photography tome that just came out on Chronicle Books.
I am so tempted to call in and razz him. First time caller, longtime listener!
Disclaimer: my little head actually appears in Peter's book. It was onstage when I operated Boombox #40 at the Flaming Lips Boombox Experiment at Bimbo's. There were 40 boomboxes, each with its own ziplock freezer bag full of specially recorded cassette tapes for each boombox.
Wayne Coyne conducted half the people on his side, and Steven Drozd conducted the other half on my side. They used legimate conductor motions but said things like, "Tape number four!" and "Turn it up!" That night is definitely one of my personal top moments in rock.
For those who haven't heard, Wayne's boombox experiments first began in parking lots, using a bunch of cars and their tapedecks as the speakers. Wayne made tapes for each car, and through the bullhorn, he'd tell people where to park, what to play, and how loudly.
My favorite command was Wayne yelling, "More Pinto!"

I heard about that experiment! Rad.
