If there is any place to start for me, it Built to Spill, a band (really a man, our hero, Doug) that speaks to me on the most simple yet direct level of communication. There are dozens of songs, live and studio, that provide a full dose of BTS. Check out the nearly 9-minute jam Goin' Against Your Mind as little taste of what you get. Close your eyes and listen to that guitar work. Beware - Doug's voice is most def in the Neil Young school of tone. Then try Stop the Show, Carry the Zero, In the Morning, or Big Dipper. Revel. Explore. Be moved. Share. And hook into mainline - a great web site(builttospill.com) and one of the most honest, pure, no bullshit live shows you may ever see. I was born before BTS, but Doug Martsch altered my musical landscape. rms

Strangely & sadly, I have only one Built to Spill song in my library, but that will soon be rectified thanks to you Rodney !!! I love Conventional Wisdom from one of my Paste Samplers... grand good stuff. CW makes me think of Buffalo Tom (melodically speaking) & his vocals are less jarring than Neil's (personally...) he's quite lovely really :)
