I have quite a few 60's Nuggets style comps now and they are all fairly predictable I suppose (Fuzz guitar, stomp drums, angry teen boys, bad lyrics, fun though) This one I just bought, Girls In The Garage Vol.3, is super great though because it's all songs by women's bands - or at least all female singers - I like to imagine they're all women playing, but I'm really not sure, and my 2 second 'research' didn't turn up much... Anyhoo.
It all comes off sounding like the Ronettes fronting Manfred Man, or Grace Slick fronting The Electric Prunes - Pretty totally sweet! It's also a lot more melodic than much of the standard male fronted garage rock. plus it's awfully good to hear some womens voices fronting the grimey recordings for a change.
This example I put up by Minnie and the Kneebones sure doesn't sound like it did much for the ladies, and sounds suspiciously like it's written by some slavering man, but is fun all the same. There's some more psychedelic stuff on the album, but this is a good pop teaser. If you like it you can buy it here
Righto, until next time

You can still find some of the original vinyl volumes around, as well as the two CD volumes. Check www.bompstore.com, for example - they have both CDs and a few LPs.
The album cover you added to this post is cool, and shows the all-girl group (? - indeed, you brought up an interesting point, that often as not girl groups might not have been entirely female during the actual recording.) The Shamettes, and is apparently vol. 4 in the original vinyl series -at least as far as 2 more seconds of research indicates...
Is that the cover on the Girls In The Garage Vol. 3 you bought, or is it this one, which was the original cover of GITG Vol. 3 - and either discretion or distribution difficulties (well, the picture may have aroused 2 more seconds of research, it's hard to say!) pulled a blanket over the pop teaser or something...
More info on the girl group depicted on the cover of the original GITG V.3 (including a video performance from "The Wild World of Jayne Mansfield" is available, check imdb for starters).
