I figured a good follow up to FairWeather would be a album track from solo Andy Fairweather Low. This one comes from his 2nd solo album, "La Booga Rooga" and simply put...it rocks! Great vocals and awesome groove supplied by Kenny Jones (Small Faces, The Who) and also includes Georgie Fame on keys!
There is a cool vibe across his first 3 albums and are worth checking out. I will probably post more songs later. Now, let's not touch the subject of the inner city highwaymen.

I've been on an Andy Fairweather Low kick for a couple years now, ever since I discovered his solo albums in early 2006. However, I was a big fan of his voice on the Amen Corner stuff, which is where he first achieved fame.
Then I found out about this band, Fairweather, which was basically Amen Corner going progressive...as all the pop bands seemed to be doing in 1969-70. Luckily, a new reissue label called Esoteric just released it, brilliantly remastered from original tapes and great artwork, liner notes, the whole deal.
Here's the song that stood out from my first listen (however, after a few repeats, I'm starting to like most of it more and more). It's not quite what I expected, but then I really had no idea what to expect as I wasn't even familiar with their big #12 hit Natural Sinner (which is included amongst their other two single releases).
The band didn't last when their album did not sell well and went their seperate ways, notably Andy Fairweather Low did a solo career and then became Eric Clapton & Roger Waters right hand man. Keyboardist Blue Weaver went on to rock with the Strawbs.
This song kinda reminds me of what Bowie was doing at the time, kinda a Space Oddity (album) vibe with the horns and things. Definitely a good example of what was going on with this group.

Every now and then my iTunes will shuffle out a track I don't really recognize and makes me say..."wait who is that!?"
This is the case last night with this track from a CD I recently got, Tomorrow Never Knows: the complete recordings of Mirage, a British pop psych band who released only a couple singles, I believe.
This song wasn't released at the time, I think, but it's sounds like an outtake from Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" album or something...which is actually why I took notice of it. It has some pleasant chord changes and nice production, again, very much like Donovan psych pop stuff with some Kinks/Beatles thrown in. Nothing earth shattering, but definitely groovy. Check the band out.
