Peter Bjorn... But No John

Posted over 2 years ago
Something always goes wrong when I go to Dublin. This time it was John the drummer. He didn't make it over, getting stuck in an airport in Stockholm. Apparently the guys also lost some gear on the way over, but they seemed to manage with borrowed gear. The first support act were Les Bien, a 'super charged' dance group. We missed most of their set because there wasn't a working ATM for a bit of a walk. What we did see was actually a surprise and would definitely have liked to see more. A lot more of them than the second support, Neosupervital, would have been appreciated. Neosupervital could only be described as complete rubbish, with songs that sounded like a 12 year old with a keyboard and a sense of self worth that boggled the mind. Attempts to be quirky, such as dancing in the crowd and wearing big sunglasses (presumably to hide their shame) just distanced them from the crowd and no-one was getting into it.When Peter and Bjorn got to the stage, the crowd was really hyped up. It started well and within the first few songs everyone was singing along. Third song up was my favourite from Writer's Block, Amsterdam. The only problem was that Bjorn seemed a little rusty. I've heard some other live gigs and that seems to always be the case. The whole set was rushed and everytime they started a story it was quickly ended with a "whatever". It wasn't until the end that they told us they were limited in time due to a niteclub starting in the venue at 11. They were on for just about an hour. In that time they managed to play all the songs people wanted to hear, and a few people probably didn't (apparently it was the first time they ever played the last song on the album 'Poor Cow' live). While you have to say that they seemed like charming lads and Peter was really giving it his all, I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed by the whole thing. I really enjoyed the songs the lads played and finishing up with an Elvis cover was great. I just hope that if I get to see them again it'll be a better show all-round.Here's Amsterdam, or at least most of it, camera was acting up so its just 3 minutes of it (it was probably only about 5 secs on either side extra). Sound isn't fantastic because I need a new camera![edit: I took the video out because it didn't seem to be working and the sound is pretty bad on it. I'll try get it cleaned up sometime during the week]
