a small crime

This sad little personal evacuation of soul performed by Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan did a surprise attack on my senses last night. I never expected anything with this much depth to be on Jay Leno. It's a bit to the "right" of what I would normally listen to [lately, lots of Emilie Autumn], but it really has a somber mood about it. I'm especially attached to Lisa Hannigan's rather dry [dry like a smothering warm blanket on a icy night] voice. I usually don't watch He Of The Ten Foot Chin, so I almost missed this song...to me, that would have been a tiny tragedy. So how much of the Good Stuff am I really missing?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekZ-IRA-l7ILeave me out with the wasteThis is not what I doIt's the wrong kind of placeTo be thinking of youIt's the wrong timeFor somebody newIt's a small crimeAnd I've got no excuseIs that alright with you?Give my gun away when it's loadedthat alright with you?If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold itIs that alright with you?Give my gun away when it's loadedIs that alright with you?with you.Leave me out with the wasteThis is not what I doIt's the wrong kind of placeTo be cheating on youIt's the wrong timebut she's pulling me throughIt's a small crimeAnd I've got no excuseIs that alright with you?Give my gun away when it's loadedIs that alright with you?If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold itIs that alright with you?Give my gun away when it's loadedIs that alrightIs that alright with you?Is that alright? Is that alright? Is that alright with you?Is that alright? Is that alright? Is that alright with you?No...

  1. gakker says Like you, I rarely watch he with the ten foot chin and when, on rare occasion, I find myself tuning in, it's certainly not for the musical guests. When he announced Damien Rice, I almost turned it. I remember checking Damien's stuff out when I found out that Tori Amos did some work with him...didn't care for it. Not for me. But when that chick on the stool behind Damien started singing I was mesmerized. I kept watching. When Damien started his verse I was still hooked. The simple piano, the vocals, the lyrics...it was an odd juxtaposition given the Borat/Martha Stewart bit that preceded it. It was striking. I don't think that's an everyday occurrence on Jay Leno, or on TV in general. I think we were both lucky to catch something that only happens once in a blue moon.
