Passion Reincarnated

Posted over 5 years ago
I saw a little concert last night. As I sat in the audience disgruntled by the fact that the people behind me were being obnoxiously drunken and loud, a chord was struck on the piano a few feet infront of me and a hush fell over the (majority) of the audience. Matt from Aqualung had stepped on stage without most people noticing, he just sat down and started to play. It was a song I hadn't heard yet, but I loved it. After his little solo, the rest of his band stepped up on stage and I was taken into an hour of passionate, musical bliss. Matt's brother harmonized with him and their chords intertwined together giving me bubbly sensations that caused a smile (and at times and open mouth) to be plastered to my face for their entire show. I missed this; I missed watching people stand up on stage only to be taken to another world by their own music. I miss seeing that passion that should be there but for so many is overtaken by pride and money and fame. These performers weren't about that; they were about making music, and using their music as a therapy for themselves, in hopes that it could be used for others as well. Then for one song the drummer (David) stepped away from his drums and picked up a viola. I didn't know what to expect: a drummer, on a viola? I had my doubts. Those doubts were washed away SO fast when I saw the expression that fell over his face though when he picked up the delicately carved instrument. He had the look of utmost love, peace, happiness, and passion upon him, and he played as though he was playing for the heavens. I was utterly speechless and overtaken by a feeling of... of... longing mixed with fullfillment. I could weep just watching him. Hearing him was literally only the half of it. I'm telling you now, I left that concert so full I just couldn't stop smiling (musically full, that is). Finally, the passion was back in the music and WOW did it show. I will never hear them the same again, for everytime a song of theirs is played, the imagery of their love for what they are doing will be prominent in my mind. I am so lucky to have been able to experience such a show, and I HIGHLY recommend that if you ever get the chance to go and see them perform, DO IT. Let the passion rise again! This world NEEDS it!
