If That Ain't Country (I'll Kiss Your SSS)
My band is opening for David Allan Coe in a few weeks. I know he's written a number of great country songs, but I also know his latest CD _Rebel Meets Rebel_ was recorded with Pantera. So I'm not really sure what to expect.I've seen a few recent videos of DAC, and some have said he now sort of looks like a country version of George Clinton. We're being billed as a "Classic Rock Band", but we certainly don't want to find ourselves in a "Bob's Country Bunker" situation (can you say "chicken wire"?) Can anyone offer any guidance as to what we should expect from Mr. Coe's audience?

  2. Iren says you guys might just want to see what the fans that show up are dressed like.. if it's a lot of leather, black, flannel, bikers and metal heads, then you might want to have your born to be wild type classic rock set list.... on the other hand if it's a lot of jeans, cowboy hats, and checkered shirts, time to dust off the bad company, byrds and johnny cash set........ or screw it, go out there and play both... what do you guys sound like anyways?

  4. redmiller1 says Well we not only survived, but we had a good time, too. A good segment of the audience were members of a certain motorcycle club. For some reason we've been relatively successful with motorcycle fans; we've played a number of rallies in the past. So there was definitely a lot of "leather, black, flannel, and bikers." We played for about 75 minutes, and our set was well received. (We even threw "Born to Be Wild" into the set - good call, Iren.) Mr. Coe played for exactly an hour. He had an excellent guitar player and they pretty much played straight country. They did play the single "Nothin to Lose" from the Rebel Meets Rebel CD, but it was more country than Pantera. It was an interesting contrast between our groups. I suspect some in the audience were expecting a more country opening act, but we received a lot of compliments afterwards.
