WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

John Scofield - Piety Street

Posted 7 months ago

Went to see John Scofield and the Piety Street Band last night at the Handlebar in Greenville, SC. Great show. I was surprised. I know John Scofield pretty much as a straight ahead jazz guitar player, but the music he and his band played last night was a mix of jazz, blues, and gospel with a strong New Orleans feel. Funky in a good way.

As a keyboard player I was very impressed with Jon Cleary. I suppose I should have been more familiar with his work as Bonnie Raitt's keyboard player, but Cleary really shared the front man duties with Scofield last night.

A very entertaining set indeed. Most of the music was from Scofield's new Piety Street album which I've now purchased. I also bought his version of "I Don't Need No Doctor" (one of the show's highlights.)

If Scofield is playing with this band at a venue near you, I highly recommend checking this band out.

Found this little "documentary" about the making of Piety Street on youtube. Enjoy.

I saw them a week ago in San Francisco, and it was a great show.  Thanks, RedMiller1 for finding this video. I agree with what you wrote.

("That's Enough" doesn't play for me.)
