my dear mogworld,

i have just begun working on a science themed mix for a friend who is a biochemical engineer. i have yet to put the tracks in any order, for i know i must be forgetting some gems, and if anyone knew them, y'all would.

(in no order, some of the songs already chosen:

kimya dawson - chemistry
modest mouse - never ending math equation
coldplay - the scientist
guided by voices - i am a scientist
beastie boys - the sound of science
elvis costello - chemistry class
tom lehrer - the elements
park like setting - physics
flaming lips - race for the prize
death cab for cutie - scientist studies
and
i have yet to choose which mc hawking track i'll use, but he'll be on there.)

your suggestions?

after coming out of any relationship (and with me, as i presume with all of you fellow music lovers, hundreds of songs are in every relationship) there will first be a lot of songs that when i hear them, i think of that lover, and as time slides by, it will narrow down to just one or two songs, sometimes because it encapsulates the relationship so well, or they played it for me often, it was in a courting mix cd, sometimes because that person made a point of giving it to me once we broke up, and so on. so here are some of mine, feel free to share yours.

a.h. = don't get around much anymore - duke ellington with al hibbler
j.b. = wasted days - the slackers
s.f. = don't dream it's over - crowded house
j.k.= just what i needed - the cars and butterfly - weezer (only track on a cd slid under my apartment door.)
b.t. = old college try - the mountain goats
o.s. = cigarettes and chocolate milk - rufus wainwright
d.g. = first day of my life - bright eyes and damaged goods - gang of four (and then, new partner - will oldham)
r.m. = the night we called it a day - chet baker (when together, it was chet's let's get lost, but once no longer together this one) and lion's mane - iron and wine

and since bill shares this computer and house with me, we're putting his ex songs in this too.

(Prefacing note from Bill: "ex" is a relative term, and not even remotely accurate in some cases)

A.P. = Pictures of You - The Cure
M.M. = Brian Wilson - Barenaked Ladies
J.?. = First Cool Hive - Moby
M.K. = Writing it Down for You - Pop Unknown
E.S. = Euro Trash Girl - Cracker
A.U. = Michelle with One L - Get Up Kids
J.B. = In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel, Feeling Good - Nina Simone
