2007 was a great year for me musically. Thanks to a friend of mine, my music library greatly increased and my taste changed for the better. I was also fortunate enough to see two of my favorite bands live this year (one of them twice). Here's my list of my favorite albums that came out this year.1) Elliott Smith, "New Moon".I think the fact that these quality songs were unreleased says alot about Elliott Smith as an artist. My favorite song off of this album is his cover of Big Star's "Thirteen". It's such a simple and beautiful song and it's well suited for him. I also love "New Monkey", "Looking Over My Shoulder", "Riot Coming", "Either/Or", and "All Cleaned Out".2) Bright Eyes, "Cassadaga". One night, a year and some odd months ago, I randomly decided to download a few songs from Bright Eyes, a band who I had heard of, but not actually listened to. It was love at first listen. Since that magical evening I've been smitten with every Bright Eyes album ever created. "Cassadaga" has a slightly more mature sound then the rest but the newer sound isn't unrecognizable. My favorites are "Coat Check Dream Song", "If the Brakeman Turns My Way", "Middleman","Hot Knives", and the beautiful "Lime Tree".3) Modest Mouse, "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank". This is one of the few records that I can listen to in it's entirety, without skipping any songs. Checkout "Florida","Missed the Boat", "Parting of The Sensory", and "Fly trapped In A Jar".4) Interpol "Our Love To Admire". I don't think it's possible for Interpol to make a bad album, I love all of them. It was a sad day when I found out I couldn't make it to their show in Portland. My favorite songs are, "Mammoth", "Pioneer to the Falls", "Pace is the Trick", and "The Heinrich Maneuver".5) "Across The Universe Soundtrack" Alright, so I'm slightly cheating with this one. See, I don't actually own the album in it's entirety..yet. But from what I have heard is beyond amazing. Plus, it's covers of The Beatles, how can you go wrong? My favorite song of this soundtrack is "Dear Prudence". I absolutely love that song, it just makes me feel so happy. Also I love "Because".
