Friendly Fires go wild @ Spacelands in Silverlake, LA.

"Raquelita Marie's 1 of many boogie down inspirations of the moment"

A french friend of mine turned me onto the UK's Friendly Fires explosive sound this past summer and since then I have been properly hooked! Their front man, Ed Macfarlane's powerful voice and fun lyrics, backed by their melodic guitar riffs and their insane percussion rhythms are enough to make you want to jump on the wall like a pre-teen high on too much coca cola. Their sound takes me back to when I was a teenie bopper back in the 80s, reminiscent of OMD and New Order. Ah the 80's! I don't know how to or would I want to categorize their music, Shoegaze?.., POP?.. the fact remains to me is that it is GOOD MUSIC! Simple as that...., but that is only my opinion. Take it or leave it.

I caught their show at Spacelands in Los Angeles, the only show in the US, besides NYC, back on the 7th Dec. They rocked & brought the mutha f'in haus down! Regardless if the sound man wasn't the best in the business, their show rocked!!I liked the cozy feel to Spaceland, but I have a feeling that the next time they return to the west coast, the venue is going to be much bigger! And hopefully the sound techs will be better. ;)

I highly recommend their self titled debut album, Friendly Fires, available on iTunes for $8.01! It's so worth it. Check it!

I hear ya! Spaceland is a notoriously difficult house to mix for because of that low ceiling and bar area off to the right.. But they DO have that glassed in bar with the parabolic dishes in the ceiling so that you can hear the conversations of people on the other side of the room. TOTALLY trippy.

My advice is to plant yourself directly to the left of the soundboard, near the bathrooms. That's gonna be as good as you can get.

By the way, I love this cut, and I'm chasing down the album even as we speak.
