Dwight Yoakam gained his notice with Hillbilly Deluxe and Buenos Noches from a Lonely Room, but he won me over with this cd. A perfect mix of uptempo and slow songs, this cd is heads and tails above anything else Nashville was making at the time. (with apologies to Steve Earle who spent more time in jail than in the studio) So many tracks stand out... the opening track "Distance Between You and Me" spells it out perfectly. You are going to get the Dwight view of love and relationships. "The Heart that You Own" was featured in the Roger Donaldson film White Sands and did pretty well on the charts. Of course the hit lurking on the cd was "Turn It On, Turn it Up, Turn Me Loose"... the video was a staple and the track hit 11 on the country charts.Several other tracks charted well too, but for me the best Dwight tracks have always been the gems hidden on the cds that usually deal with a love gone wrong. "Sad, Sad Music" and the foot stompin' "Since I Started Drinkin' Again" both fall in that category. A wonderful cd from start to finish.
