The Yin And Yang Of Quotes ........

Posted about 1 year ago
"River Lethe":http://mog.com/River_Lethe left me this gem at what was ground Zero in a debate we were having in comments (not really his but he offered it as a reminder);*"Plato attributed Socrates as having said, "The unexamined life is not worth living."*Later (in a different post entirely) "Jonh Ingham":http://mog.com/Jonh_Ingham dropped this bomb (while also being a reminder, it was entirely his);*"Grown up people sort things out by reason and debate. But for that you need education."*Here's another strange thought, "Taking all of our collective writings (or 'leavings' if your down on yourself) we probably have the equivalent of one William Shakespeare"The track is Solomon Burke - "Thanks I Needed That" from the comp. 'Psychedelic Jazz & Funky Grooves'.

  1. HelenMarie says Thanks, I needed that. I'm into the mystery of who posts in here. I keep thinking it'd fun to do a kind of guessing game, just going by what music is picked with the quotes. This is a dead give-away tho. ~I'm also into being able to edit your own comments!~ ; )

  2. Cody B says Sunny you've got the author pegged..of course the main clue is the player, but the philosophy also points the way..Now I need to find the context..

  3. HelenMarie says "Now I need to find the context.." Humm...let's examine the thought a while and feel like our life is worth living. I'm sure we can sort it out with reason, but depending on our... "education levels":http://saintgasoline.com/comics/2007-06-12-How_To_Do_Philosophy.JPG

  4. Cody B says Nice tune.. I was more like, what post is the comment lifted from kinda, sorta context, not some deep search for meaning...on the other hand I also have a need to go and see what smart people are saying, so I can steal it and pass it off as my own, because of certain deficiencies (spelling being the smallest) in my character which 'cause me to try to be something I'm not, which in turn fuels a depression, based on a supposed lack of self-authenticity.

  5. Cody B says I meant to say nice toon Sunny, but the Solomon funk is a nice tune, too(n).

  6. HelenMarie says I'm giggling at every little part of both of your comments. Now...what's strange is the coincidence (or twist of fate...hum) that you would type "tune". I was having trouble previewing my comment, making sure the link worked. It was timing out and taking me to a (mostly) blank page with teeny tiny yellow play button in the very upper left corner. It wasn't quite the same yellow button we see around here either, but I pushed it out of curiosity and......it was the Bob Dylan's Twist of Fate!?! How weird is that?! I'm kidding there was no tune, but there was a little yellow button which I still think is weird.

  7. Cody B says I chuckle right backatcha Sunny...your twist(ed) tale of fate had me rollin' too. It is all Chris' fault for casting us in the Yin and Yang roles.. This quotablemog thing is another good idea Chris had..someone oughta send him a check..

  8. HelenMarie says True, someone oughta...but...we are the hard working cast. Maybe we can get a (small?) cut.

  9. Cody B says Penny a word? I'm not keeping score, though.

  10. I am says I can't hide. Anonimity is a good thing though. Brings what your talking about to the fore. I just can't ditch the player.... mabye I'll surprise ya someday. You know really twist it up. As for that check, I 'd blow it all on a hootenanny for my Mog friends, share the good times. Rivers quote came from a rebuttal I posted against a piece Puffmagic did quite some time ago. And Jonh's came from .... I believe my 2nd Amendment post. Not sure though. Context is great, but I think it is just a small supporting part of a great quote.

  11. I am says Great quote about great quotes.... Ahhhhh when will it end? Fish or cut bait, fish or cut bait. *on the other hand I also have a need to go and see what smart people are saying, so I can steal it and pass it off as my own, because of certain deficiencies (spelling being the smallest) in my character which 'cause me to try to be something I'm not, which in turn fuels a depression, based on a supposed lack of self-authenticity.* Too flippin' funny.
