While I was at V festival at the weekend, I popped into one of the smaller tents to see Siouxsie. As well as doing a lot of old Banshee's favourites including Hong Kong Garden (30 years old this week fact fans) she did some of her newer stuff off last years Mantaray. I know the quality is not great on this video and I am standing in the way, but I laughed out loud when she...

John Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman was up for parole again this month (Crazy how someone can kill someone in the US of A and someday be released from prison.) It was Chapman's fifth time in front of a parole board. He was denied and will remain in New York's Attica Correctional Facility for at least two more years, where Chapman, now 53, has already served 28 years behind bars.
While the parole meeting happened back on August 12th, the transcript of the meeting w... MORE
Metallica's Lars Ulrich loves Black Sabbath and Deep Purple -- and so does his 10-year-old son.
Ulrich may have played songs from those old rock bands around the house on his stereo, but he gives credit for his son's excitement to another source: video games.
Myles Ulrich is a fan of games such as "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band," which have spawned a comeback for rock music.
"It's a cool generational thing to share that with your kids," said Ulrich, the drummer for the multi-p... MORE

Talk about a bang for your buck! The country may be in a recession, but this show makes it all seem like a bad dream. Neil Young has lassoed two of the alternative world's finest bands to open for the North American leg of his fall tour. While Wilco works on their new album, due this spring, Death Cab for Cutie opens the tour October 14 while Wilco jumps on November 29. In the meantime, Young is wrapping things up over seas before heading over to Boston to perform with Wi... MORE

This video is very old school, but was one of my favorites when I started listening to electronica, and warp artists in general. Tom's cramped studio setting really conveys a warm sense of comfort to me as a musician, although I am sure he was hermetic during his tape reel days, and really exhibits how he was able to make albums like Hard Normal Daddy. How tedious it must have been to make tracks in 1996 compared to the technology that can be viewed today in everyday h... MORE
Founding member and saxophoist LeRoi Moore died Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles due to complications resulting from a June ATV accident. The accident occurred on June 30 on Moore's farm in Charlottesville, Virginia and left him with a broken rib and punctured lung. Moore was sent to Los Angeles to undergo intensive rehabilitation therapy, but was hospitalized again and passed away at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. The band has since replaced him with the Flecktones’ sax... MORE

The Cribs' Gary Jarman. Weezer's Brian Bell. Modest Mouse's Joe Plummer. Girl Talk aka Gregg Gills. Ratatat. This may sound like the coolest tea ever, but it's actually the all-star cast set to appear in the new Stephen Malkmus and the Jick's video for "Gardenia." The track, fresh off this spring's Real Emotional Trash, is directed by Portland-based film maker Daniel Wood and features the aforementioned names lip-synching and hammering away on air guitars. The video, whi... MORE
I know this will not be news to most, it seems punk music gets swept under the rug a lot here on MOG. Big news today though, Dillinger Four have finally set an official date for the release of their new album titled Civil War. That would make it almost 6 years since the boys of D4 have released an album, and seeing they are one of my favorite bands it couldn't come at a better date. Six years is a long time to wait to make another album, but thats what happens when you... MORE
Aw, snap. Sub Pop just posted the title track from Blitzen Trapper’s upcoming release, Furr. Take a listen below. I love it and I promise you will too. The album is set to drop on September 23, their first record on the Sub Pop label (which can only mean great things). Mark your calendars and [...]

So, "American Boy" was terribly infectious and so undeniable as a quintessential summer song, but "Pretty Please", Estelle's obvious homage to all things "Dreamgirls", Diana Ross, The Shirelles and neo-soul (that fledgling movement circa the end of the 90s/early Y2K...
